Norway: Melodi Grand Prix 2021 details revealed …KEiiNO are back too!

The Melodi Grand Prix 2021 national selection begins in Norway on 16 January. The first details of the competition have been revealed by the broadcaster, NRK. Good news for many Eurovision fans is that KEiiNO (2019 Spirit In The Sky) are back!

There will be five semi-finals and one act will qualify for the final from each heat. An additional wild card act from the semi-finals be will be chosen by the audience to make it to the final also.

In addition five acts are automatically chosen for the final. They are –

  • KEiiNO – Monument
  • TIX Ut Av Mørket
  • Stavangerkameratene – Barndomsgater
  • Kaja Rode Feel Again
  • Atle Petterson – Word On Fire
  • Rein Alexander – Eyes Wide Open

Each act directly in the final will get a chance to perform their song each week in the semi-finals beginning with KEiiNO in week one.

The acts for the first semi-final on 16 January are –

  • Beady Belle – Playing With Fire
  • Blåsemafian – Let Loose
  • Jorn – Fate Bloody Faith
  • Stina Talling – Elevate

The remaining semi-final acts will be revealed each week. For example the second semi-final acts will be announced on 18 January.

NIA & Blas Cantó release ‘Cúrame’ duet

NIA & Blas Cantó have collaborated on a brand new release called Cúrame (Heal me). The song is an emotional power ballad.

Cúrame is available to stream or purchase from digital stores such as Amazon, Spotify, Apple Music and many more.

Blas Cantó will represent Spain at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. A national final will take place in the coming weeks to select the song. Blas was originally selected to sing for Spain at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest with Universo but the competition was cancelled due to the world health situation.

NIA (Nia Correia) was the winner of Operación Triunfo 2020 in Spain.

Stefania will give us a ‘Last Dance’ for Greece at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest

Stefania will sing the song Last Dance for Greece at the 2021 Eurovision Song  Contest.

Last Dance is composed by Dimitris Kontopoulos (who has been involved with several Eurovision songs over the years including You Are The Only One – Russia 2016), Arcade and Sharon Vaughn. The song will be released in March.

Stefania was selected to represent Greece at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest with SUPERG!RL but the competition was cancelled due to the world health pandemic.

MELODIFESTIVAL 2021 – HOSTS

The hosts for the Melodifestivalen 2021 have been announced. Some familiar names will be hosting the shows –

  • Semi-final 1 – Lena Philipsson
  • Semi-final 2 – Anis Don Demina & Oscar Zia
  • Semi-final 3 – Jason Diakité
  • Semi-final 4 – Per Andersson
  • Andra chansen (second chance) – Shirley Clamp
  • The final – Måns Zelmerlöw & Shima Niavarani

Lena Philipsson represented Sweden at the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest with It Hurts and has participated in many Melodifestivalen competitions over the years.

Anis Don Demina has participated on the Melodifestivalen stage in 2018 (with Samir & Viktor) and 2019 (with Zeana) and in his own right in 2020 with the song Vem e som oss.

Oscar Zia took part in the 2014 and 2016 Melodifestivalen shows with Yes We Can and Human respectively.

Jason Diakité is also known as Timbuktu and is a Swedish rapper.

Per Andersson is a comedian and actor in Sweden.

Shirley Clamp is well known to Eurovision fans. She has participated in the Melodifestivalen on six occasions – 2003, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2011 and 2014.

Måns Zelmerlöw of course won the Eurovision Song Contest for Sweden in 2015 with Heroes.

Shima Niavarani is a Swedish-Iranian actress and singer.

Executive producer, Christer Björkman, will also be heavily involved again with this being the 20th Melodifestivalen competition.

Israel: The three songs for Eden Alene for ‘Our Song For Eurovision’ announced

The three songs that Eden Alene will sing in the Israel 2021 national final ‘Our Song For Eurovision’ on 25 January have been announced.

The three songs are –

  • La La Love
  • Set Me Free
  • Ue La La

Two of the songs were voted for in an online selection organised by KAN tv in Israel. The third song was chosen by an expert jury.

Eden was originally selected to represent Israel at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest with Feker Libi, but the competition was cancelled due to the world health pandemic.

Daði Freyr X ÁSDÍS can ‘Feel The Love’ with brand new single

Daði Freyr X ÁSDÍS have released a new single called Feel The Love. It is an upbeat electro pop/dance track with a strong retro 80s style production.

Feel The Love is produced by Daði Freyr and the audio mix is by Styrmir Hauksson. The track is available to download or stream from all good digital stores including Amazon, Spotify, iTunes and many more.

Daði & Gagnamagnið were one of the big favourites to win the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest with Think About Things. However, the contest was cancelled due to the world health pandemic.  Daði will represent Iceland at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest.

ÁSDÍS (Ásdís María Viðarsdóttir) is a popular artist in Iceland. She has had several hit songs and music videos and took part in the 2014 Söngvakeppnin national selection with Amor.

Belarus begins 2021 selection process

Belarus has today announced their selection process for the Eurovision 2021 song contest.

Applications can be made through the Belarus TV website and as in previous years there are no language restrictions for submitted songs.

This year however: “For the first time in the history of national selection, you need to send a video recording of the performance of the composition in live sound mode.  Both solo performers and teams of no more than 6 people are invited to participate. Belarusian and foreign artists from 16 years can become candidates. At the same time, every applicant has the right to only one application.”

Applications will be accepted up until Jan 31st and thereafter, the format of the national final or selection will be made depending on the epidemiological situation at that time.
