Q&A’s with the ‘firey’ Sarah Engels from Germany!

ESC Covers have recently been in touch with Sarah Engels, who is representing Germany at the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest. She has kindly replied to a large list of questions that we sent to her.

A small selection of these can be read below – but for the full, in-depth detailed answers to our questions, you’ll have to check out our YouTube video, which is linked below!

At ESC Covers, we love hearing cover versions. For Eurovision’s ‘A Little Bit More’ you sung a cover version of ‘Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu’ or ‘Volare’ from 1958. What was the reason you chose that particular song to sing?

→ I chose “Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu” because it has a very special meaning to me. With my Italian roots, it’s a song I’ve always felt connected to. It carries so much history, emotion, and joy. It’s also one of my  grandparents’ favorite songs, so it meant a lot to me to sing it for them. Seeing how happy it made them was really special and very emotional for me. At the same time, it’s such an iconic Eurovision song, so it felt like a beautiful way to honor the tradition of the contest while also bringing a part of my own identity into it.

Recently, we’ve seen you at both the Eurovision In Concert and London Eurovision pre-parties. What was your experience of seeing the Eurovision fan’s reaction to your song and performance?
→ It was such a special experience. Feeling the energy from the fans live is something completely different – it’s so immediate and emotional. The reactions to “Fire” have been really beautiful. Seeing people sing along, connect with the message, and feel the song the way I do means so much to me. It gave me a lot of confidence and motivation for the Eurovision stage.

Do you have any favourite musical artists from Germany? Are there any that you would recommend for our readers to check out?
→ There are so many great artists in Germany right now. I really like Leony – she has such a modern, international sound. Apache 207 is also very unique and creative in his style, and of course Helene Fischer is an absolute icon with incredible stage presence. I think these artists really show how diverse the German music scene is, so they’re definitely worth checking out.

How can fans find out more about you and listen to your other music? Do you have any future albums lined up?
→ Fans can follow me on my social media channels and streaming platforms – that’s where I share most of my music and updates.
My latest album, Strong Girls Club, is something I’m very proud of. It includes both German and English songs – 10 in each language – which really reflects who I am as an artist. And of course, I’m always working on new music, so there’s definitely more to come.
