Roxen & Alexander Rybak have collaborated on a new song called Wonderland. It is an upbeat and catchy track with a positive and happy vibe. I am not sure Alexander actually sings on this track but I presume he is involved in the music playing.

Wonderland is available to purchase or stream via most digital stores such as Amazon, Spotify and many more.

Roxen was chosen to represent Romania at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest with Alcohol You. The competition was, however, cancelled due to the world health pandemic. Roxen will get another chance as she has been confirmed to represent Romania at the 2021 Eurovision.

Sandra Gadelia representing Georgia with her song ‘You are not alone’ was the first of today’s performance teaser clips.

France

After a year off, The Eiffel tower makes a welcome return for France and this time it dances!

France’s staging is once again a very colorful affair with a blaze of bright pink and sky blue lighting Valentina’s energetic performance.

Belarus

Belerus seem to have chosen to recreate something similar to the music video for Arina Pehtreva’s stage performance of her Powerful and haunting song ‘Aliens’.

In the teaser, Arina can be seen wearing the same striking white coat as worn in the music video.

Three years ago Allie performed Supermarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran, and the video viral worldwide. Allie has since gone on to appear on major tv shows in USA such as ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ and back home in Ireland on ‘The Ray D’Arcy Show’.

Allie does regular busking in Ireland and attracts big crowds and interest. She has big career ahead of her and we look forward to more of her covers and original music. In ESC Covers opinion Allie would make a great choice to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest!

Junior Eurovision Day 3 – Malta/Kazakhstan

Day 3 of Junior Eurovision week 2020 saw another batch of teaser performance video’s released on the official channel.

Malta

For her song ‘Chasing Rainbows’ the diminutive Chanel Monseigneur appears alone on stage wearing a red dress with the animation from her music video as a backdrop.

Kazakhstan

Following the Instagram images released last month, we can confirm that Kazakhstan have gone down the tried and tested ‘big dress’ route for their Junior Eurovision staging this year.

Several of the shots in the teaser also show a large pair of furled wings which we will presumably get to see in all their glory during the full performance on Sunday.

Voting at Junior Eurovision a proposal for change

Background.

One of the most discussed Junior Eurovision topics amongst both fans and press in recent years has been the online voting system and in particular the decision to allow viewers to vote for their own country.

Given how the public points awarded are calculated from these votes,  (% of votes = % of available points) – almost inevitably countries who enjoy high viewing figures find themselves at the top of the leader board and smaller countries are severely disadvantaged.

Proposal for change

1) Continue to allow viewers to vote for their own country but adopt a system very similar to ‘Adult’ ESC where the source location of the vote is recorded from IP address/location data.  This is presumably already in place to prevent voting multiple times

2) To continue allowing viewers in non participating countries to vote and in order to ensure the 50/50 Jury/Public vote points balance is maintained, an additional Rest of the World Jury would need to be assembled consisting of ‘experts’ and children from different non competing countries.

3) Votes from each participating country (and the ROW) are tallied separately and then converted to a 12 points, second 10 points etc.  These point scores from each participating country along with the ROW vote points are then combined and can be presented as a grand total for each entry, in the same manner as they currently are.

Benefits

This system allows the principle of voting for ones own country to remain whilst at the same time removing the inherent bias of the previous system which favours sheer quantity of votes cast.

Those voting in each country would only be able to contribute a maximum of 12 votes to the public total (assuming each country tops their own vote) and smaller countries are given a level playing field to compete.

Drawbacks

Administration for voting would be slightly more time consuming as each countries total votes would need to be separated.  This however should only be an issue during the live broadcast voting window.
