NORWEGIAN 2023 SELECTION – TURN OFF MY HEART – BJORN OLAV EDVOURDSEN

Morten Thomassen from OGAE Norway looks at some of the candidates in the 2023 Norwegian Eurovision selection. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.

On my first listen of all the songs, it was this song that ended up in first place that day.

Bjørn Olav has dreamed all his life of participating in MGP and he therefore had to be 40 years old before that dream came true as an artist.

Already in 2021, he was involved as a composer and last weekend he got a final place as co-composer on the song for Umami Tsunami.

Maybe that’s exactly what gives him a little lower shoulders when he performs “Turn Off My Heart” on Saturday.

This is a song that actually gives me low shoulders, a lovely toned down ballad with tons of melancholy thrown into the mix, right up my alley actually.

The text that tells about how you wish you could occasionally turn off tiring and disturbing thoughts, I think will strike a chord with many people.

Some will probably think that this song is quite full of most ballad clichés, but I don’t care about such things when the song gives me the chills a good song should do.

The relatively young Mr Edvardsen already has competition experience from both Idol and The Voice, so he should know how to cope with the competition pressure.

And when you’ve been allowed to sing a duet with Sissel Kyrkjebø herself, I expect good vocals with the empathy this song requires, I think I’ll get that too.
