ESC Covers, like in previous years, google translated ESC Norge discussion on the Eurovision song contest positions, from Norwegian to English.
This is a blog post and only represents the writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.
Showing support for a song participating in the ESC is nothing new. For example, posters are made every year for individual countries that show which phone number to use to vote for a particular country, and that poster shows the phone number in all countries that you can vote in so that you can spread the word on social media about how your friends all over the world can vote for your favorite song.
A nice gesture, but when a state takes this matter into its own hands and spreads voting information about its country in large campaigns on YouTube, among other things, it may still not be illegal, but a bit thoughtful if you ask me, and this layer of thoughtfulness will probably outweigh the second place Yuval Raphael from Israel received for his song “New Day Will Rise.”
Now it must be said that in terms of song, there is nothing wrong with this song coming in second place, it clearly has qualities, even though in the eyes of a good many the song was old-fashioned and perhaps did not have much in common with music that has the greatest appeal to music lovers, but, it must be said, ESC has never been the big trend-follower, or more correctly, the trends come to this competition little by little.
Yuval gave us an emotionally strong show. In some of the rehearsals, her voice faltered at times, but in the finale there was little to complain about. Otherwise, I struggled a bit with the choice of dress. It was very gloomy and a bit too witch-like in a song that is about a new day emerging, hopefully a better day.
Whether this country will be allowed to participate next year is supposed to still be a topic of discussion among the high gentlemen and ladies of the EBU, unfortunately it doesn’t seem like they will be less controversial at first and with the public support they obviously have, it will give them a victory in the end and what does the EBU do then?
