ESC Covers, like in previous years, google translated ESC Norge discussion on the Eurovision song contest positions, from Norwegian to English.
This is a blog post and represents only the writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.
Sometimes it’s the case that if you have a rather unmemorable vocal performance in your national final, it really gets stuck in the weeks leading up to ESC and many people therefore have little faith that you will do well when you get to the international final.
The German duo Abor & Tynna, who both actually have Austrian passports, suffered this fate this year. Many would have thought that with the song “Baller” they would be allowed to fight for last place or somewhere close, a landscape our German friends have all too often ended up in recent years.
A total of 7 placements in 25th place or lower since 2015 is not much to brag about, but this sibling duo with a father in the Vienna Philharmonic actually got 15th place with their song, which is a good placement for this country actually.
When Atilla and Tünde Bornemisza, as they are actually called, entered the stage, we saw someone who, in my opinion, managed to bring the energy of the song into the performance and then you are on the right track. Tynna, who is a vocalist, still has a way to go to become a vocalist that shines, but it was an improvement from the German final.
All in all, we are joining a party that I think quite a few people got their feet wet and here the jury and the audience were touchingly in agreement, only 3 points more were given to our German-Austrian from the jury than from the people, convincing agreement in other words.
And for those wondering, the brother in this sibling duo, Abor, can play the cello, so the luminescent cello wasn’t just a cool prop.
For two years in a row, this country has finished in the middle of the results list, will they work their way up the results list next year?
