ESC Covers, like in previous years, google translated ESC Norge discussion on the Eurovision song contest positions, from Norwegian to English.
This is a blog post and represents only the writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.
Armenian Parg got his ticket to Basel the day after our own Kyle Alessandro got his and for those of us who watched the Armenian final, we may have been a little surprised since both the costume and the message in the song were quite comparable, to say the least.
However, while the Norwegian entry was polished up a bit before the trip to Basel, the song “Survivor” underwent a total renovation in how it appeared visually to us who watched the performance on TV.
When a song qualifies for the final in 10th place, you can hardly expect it to do very well in a final, but unless the jury really loves it and it was a bit strange in my opinion that it didn’t in this performance, with both jury groups the song ended up in 18th place, but together it still came in 20th place, a position that gave Rosa Linn a huge hit, I don’t think Parg can hope for the same this year.
I find it a bit strange that the performance, which is one of the most music video-like things I’ve ever seen on an ESC stage, didn’t resonate more with the jury, dirty as he was on stage in a fierce fight to survive what he was once fighting against.
Vocally, I think it’s within and by all accounts this should and should be jury food so it’s fine, maybe it was the song they thought was too weak and bland and possibly that he occasionally falls out of character and is charming instead of intense as he is most of the performance.
Our Armenian friend Parg had the pleasure of receiving 12 points from the Maltese jury and 12 points from the Georgian people and he was certainly pleased and next year I am sure we will get another great show from this country, because they are good at that after all.
