It is time for Montenegro and the only song from this country ever covered in South Africa. It is their 2009 entry JUST GET OUT OF MY LIFE by ANDREA DEMIROVIC. The Afrikaans cover is done by JEANDRE ODENDAAL.
I woke up to a huge SURPRISE this morning, seeing finally a FLAG COUNTER. I have wanted this on the website from day one but was unable to create one. Now Jeff joined the team a few days ago and he did a fantastic job to make this dream come true for me. So after one day, we can see already some great statistics – already people from about 48 countries have visited the website with visitors from RUSSIA taking almost 50% of the visiting statistics.
Although Luxembourg left Eurovision many years ago, they had a great history in Eurovision and what better than their 1972 winning song APRES TOI by VICKY LEANDROS. There are various covers of this song around the world and even in Afrikaans with no less than 3 cobvers with totally different lyrics. We have picked the cover by JANITA CLAASSEN.
Finally it is time for LITHUANIA. Unfortunately we did not have a big choice as only one of their songs have been covered in South Africa. Itnis their 2005 entry LITTLE BY LITTLE by LAURA AND THE LOVERS. The Afrikaans cover is done by JENNIFER ZAMUDIO.
There is a new generation of composers in Sweden and one of them is JIMMY JANSSON. In 2014 he was composer to songs like
HOLLOW – JANET LEON
CASANOVA – ELISA LINDSTROM
Fred Medeiros of ESC Covers said HELLO HI to him at the Second chance contest as he was there as composer for
HELLO HI – DOLLY STYLE
Pity they did not advance to the final in Stockholm but the chances are good that the song will be in Afrikaans soon.
And hopefully next year Jimmy is back with a new bunch of songs.
Back to Latvia, my favourite country and one of their best entries – 2003 HELLO FROM MARS by F L Y. The Afrikaans cover is by Nadia Louw and Hugo Nieuwoudt.
Israel is up next and it is their 1979 winning song HALLELUJAH sung by Gali Atari with milk and honey. The Afrikaans cover was a big hit for the brothers Innes & Franna Benade
