ANOTHER COMPETITION

More or less for 40 days our members had the chance to review the 2015 Eurovision entries. Several members got to start a review and others then went and comment on their own perceptions of the entries. It has been extremely interesting and enjoyable reading it.

Now a little competition over it. You must write on this post which review you enjoyed the most – not necessarily the song you like best but from what you read others responded, which one would you regard as the most interesting or one that brought back the most memories for you.

I won’t announce the prize now as it would influence the reaction so let me first see what you as members think. This is mainly also to get more people to comment on the website. A lot of people visit the website, usually more than 100 a day but it is not so easy to see which individual visited the website and therefore with a comment, it is much easier to see.

I think I will look at a winner in a week’s time.

  1. I really enjoyed reading Jasmine Bear’s reviews.

Specially the one for Belgium, as it was one of my favorites too.

    1. Jasmine did some great reviews and I rather it is because she has an own blog so she has an advantage above the rest of the people who did reviews

  2. Without a doubt for me it was Italy and it wasn’t the actual review although that was great. It was the contribution by Vincent Colagiuri responding to Ruth Oldfield’s query in the middle of the thread. The insight into music itself and the language of music was pure gold. I learned so much and Vincent explained it all so beautifully. It is sharing our knowledge, our skills like this that really sets this group apart from so many others. We start on commenting on a song and because we have a talented member with the patience to take the rest of us on an exploration of the intricacies of music we all come out the other end a little better for that journey. Thank you Vincent and thank you RoW for the opportunity for us all to share as Different Cultures, One Passion!

  3. For me it was the review of Slovenia’s entry by David Robichaud.

David hit the nail on the head with his witty observations of the staging, song and performance. His opening line perfectly sums up the entire package in a very funny way and grabs your attention immediately. – “What do you get when you take a woman with an interesting chipmunk-esque voice who constantly wears headphones, paired with an air violinist from outer space?”

    Well done David…awesome review!

  4. I liked Dennis Flores take on Estonia. Although he was a fan,he gave a wonderfully balanced review.

  5. I really liked the reviews from people who quite obviously loved the song they were reviewing. I’m not sure if that was the way the songs were divided out amongst the selected few but it seemed like most reviewers got their favourites. Jasmin got some great songs to review and my favourite was the one she did for Belgium. Was such a lovely way of expressing the pure joy from that song and Loïc’s performance.

    1. Hi Wayne

About 2 months ago I asked for volunteers to do the 40 reviews. I got 9 responses. I then asked these people to nominate 4 first choices and 6 second choices, and from this I allocated 4 to each based on their first and second choices. There were some countries no one picked, so these were allocated randomly.

      Cheers, Richard

  6. I personally loved hearing everyone’s takes on the entrants for this year. For me, what stood out as a favourite was Italy’s review. It’s fascinating to hear a whole range of professional and personal takes on things, and this one I found specifically interesting.

  7. I also post this comment from Ronny on his behalf

I really enjoyed reviewing and reading other people’s thoughts on this years entrants. It’s always great to hear how a song can affect a person. I personally love how one person can love a particular song and another person loathe it.
My favourite reviews came from Jasmin bear for her Belgium review. She was professional, fair and articulate.
My favourite discussion came from David Robichord, and the Israel review. I think that particular review really showed how a song in Eurovision can have many lives. How you can dislike a song, dislike the vocals lyrics and staging but somehow, due to its pure fun element during euro week, such a song can grow on you to the point of adoring it, screaming along and dancing crazily! Then, after you’ve gone back to reality, realise the song is still pretty bad but you have all the wonderful memories from the week.

  8. My favourite this year must go to Jasmin Bears review of Belgium Loic and the best way to describe my view is to copy my comment:

Kate Hansen LOL Andrew, ….and I concur with everyone, this was a GREAT song & performance. Just 2 days ago at work, Kingsley put on this song & we had a great time discussing/dancing to it!!! Jasmin Bear, what more can I add to the superlatives of your review? You are an abbaSOOOOluuutely BRILLIANT “reporter”!!! In a couple of days, once others have had a chance to comment, I will be compelled to do a review of YOUR amazing *Winner* Review wink emoticon

May I just add, that even though Jasmin has an advantage in this “competition”, she should NOT be “dis”adavantaged in winning.
Maybe there could be a runner up winner too ?

    Cheers
    Kate

    ps
…..and I guess this IS a review of Jasmins review as I promised LOL
