Flo McSweeney represented Ireland in the International section of the 1985 Viña del Mar festival, with the song “Wait until the weekend comes”. The song advanced to the finals of the competition, but it remained unplaced, as only the top 3 songs were revealed.

“Wait until the weekend comes” would reappears shortly after, however, in the voice of Maria Christian, winning the Irish national selection for the 1985 Eurovision Song Contest just 1 month after it was sung at Viña del Mar in February. The song placed 6th in Eurovision.
