Eurovision 2021: Organizers set realistic targets for May event

The organizers of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest have ruled out Option 1 from the four ideas presented to make sure the May event will take place.

Because of the ongoing world health pandemic it is not possible to have a full audience and a ‘normal’ Eurovision. However, the organizers are working hard, and hoping, for Option B to take place.

The Option B would involve hosting a socially distanced event with artists performing in Rotterdam.

“The security, health and safety of all participants at the Eurovision Song Contest, from the crew to the artists, is our top priority. We are following international developments closely and continuing to explore and plan for 3 revised scenarios (B, C and D) first announced last autumn.”  says Martin Österdahl, the Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest.

A further decision on how the Contest will be staged will be taken in the coming weeks. Sietse Bakker, Executive Producer Event for Host Broadcasters NPO, NOS and AVROTROS said: “By staying flexible for as long as we can, we are aiming to make the best possible Eurovision Song Contest under the circumstances. Our primary goal is to get the 41 artists to Rotterdam, to all perform on the same stage, and to welcome journalists to cover the Contest.”

  1. I can forget to be one of your journalists – I need a visa, and the visa centers are not opened. My passport expired 31 January 2021 and those offices are not dealing with passport renewals for ordinary citizens.
