ABBA has been in the music business for 50 years. To celebrate that happy event, INFE Ireland and INFE South Africa are hosting the ABBA TOP 50 from Monday September 20 to Tuesday November 9. We’ll be posting what we think are the 50 best ABBA songs in alphabetical order. Enjoy!
ESC Covers also add a cover to every ABBA song. Today’s cover is in Afrikaans. HASTA MANANA was the first ABBA song covered in AFRIKAANS. GLENYS LYNNE, the JILL of the group FOUR JACKS AND A JILL (who performed in English), decided to sing solo in Afrikaans and had several big hits, mostly covers and this was one of them.

Hasta Mañana, the fourth track on ABBA’s second studio album Waterloo, was released in 1974 as the album’s third and final single. Initially fearing that Waterloo might be too risky to enter for the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, the group considered performing the ballad Hasta Mañana instead, as they thought that it was more in style with previous Eurovision winners. Eventually, they decided on Waterloo, primarily because it featured Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad sharing lead vocals, whereas Hasta Mañana had Agnetha as the sole lead vocalist. ABBA believed that this would give the wrong impression of them to the world.
