Nicole Hammett is a new name to us here at ESC Covers. But she is certainly a young singer from Malta to look out for. She can comfortably sing and merge the styles of classical and opera/soprano with pop and ballads and rock/pop music with outstanding vocals and technique.
Her first music video was for the release for her song called Start Over and it reached 345,000 views in just a week when first released. The single went all the way to number one in the Bay Radio charts in Malta and stayed there for three weeks and eventually it was a top ten seller for the whole year of 2017.
Nicole has great ambitions to be not only a pop star but also to perform in musical theatre. I am sure she will achieve a lot of her goals and maybe one day we will see her on the Eurovision stage also.
Let us take a look at an example of Nicole’s singing below. First we see her perform her hit single Start Over. Next we see her sing Ti Siento (by Matia Bazar) and MacArthur Park (originally by Richard Harris but this version more like the Donna Summer dance version with some operatic vocals). You can see the official video for Start Over at this link https://www.facebook.com/nicolehammettpopsopranosinger.official/videos/1424683684263647/
Kayley Cuschieri is a young rising star in Malta. She has recently performed the song Homeless, recorded by Leona Lewis, on the Anki Jien Ghandi X’Nuri show on Net tv in Malta. She demonstrated her powerful vocals and showed a lot of emotion.
Kayley was in the Fusion group who took part in the 2016 Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest national selection. But as a solo singer she is stepping out and showing her talent by performing in tv shows and festivals such as The Entertainers – Singing Challenge.
Nicole Azzopardi performed her recent version of the Italian song Dimmi Come at the Dar Tal-Providenza Marathon 2018 charity event in Malta.
Nicole represented Malta at the 2010 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Belarus. She has certainly come a long way since then and she is indeed a talented vocalist and she has also had success in acting.
Rachel Lowell recently performed at the Kunċert tal-Milied at the Magħna Għat-Tfal tal-Missjoni charity marathon in Malta. She showcased her charming and sweet vocals with the Maltese song Helu Bambin (Sweet baby).
Rachel took part in the 2016 Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest national selection and has also taken part in tv and festivals including The Entertainers – Singing Challenge on Net tv and also San Remo Junior 2017. She has also been taking part in The Phantom Of The Opera stage show in Malta.
Amii Stewart headlined a special concert in Malta at the weekend. Amii was responsible for many worldwide hits in the 70s and 80s including the disco smash version of Knock On Wood.
Amii’s specially invited guest at the concert was Federica Falzon, who represented Malta at the 2014 Junior Eurovision Song Contest with the charming Diamonds.
Federica is blossoming in to a much respected opera singer, and she can also perform pop to, as well as being an actress. I am sure we are going to hear a lot more of Federica.
You can see a video of Federica at the concert singing a duet with Amii of Hallelujah and also performing solo.
In Tbilisi at the Junior Eurovision song contest a great program book was handed out looking very much like those at ADULT Eurovision. Roy of ESC Covers had each of the 16 acts sign the book and for the next days we will post it. Today we can highlight the eight one – it is MALTA who ended with 107 points – Gianluca was our favourite.
Gianluca Cilia will represent Malta at the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest on Sunday. Here he gives a little show of Destiny’s winning JESC song for Malta Not My Soul from 2015.
