The Berlin weekend takes place 14 to 16 July (obviously in Berlin) and part of it is the OGAEvision song contest. There will be entries from 12 OGAE clubs and for the next days we will highlight each one. First up is the entry from the GERMAN clubs – they have two clubs and they have combined to pick an entry.
Why this is so interesting for us at ESC COVERS is that the male/female duo will be singing VERONA, the 2017 Eurovision entry from ESTONIA with GERMAN lyrics. We have covered the song in South Africa already weeks ago with of course AFRIKAANS lyrics. It is called AS IN DIE VLAMME and is sung by ANDRE VAN WYNGAARDT.
Just from a pure cover perspective, we are rooting for this entry.
Maria Voskania was a recent finalist in the 2017 Deutschland sucht den Superstar (German Pop Idol). She released her potential winner’s song that she performed in the final entitled Magie. Maria’s style of music is schlager influenced.
Maria is from Armenia and moved to Germany with her family in 1995. She actually took part in the Armenian Eurovision national selection in 2007 and finished in second place. She was also a candidate in the 2010 Unser Star für Oslo Eurovision selection in Germany.
Maria sent a demo recording to the famous schlager singer Helene Fischer and was later invited to tour with her as part of her band. She had already released a couple of albums before taking part in the 2017 edition of Deutschland sucht den Superstar. She also had another Eurovision connection- she was guest vocalist on a couple of tracks by DJ Bobo (2007 ESC Switzerland) – La Vida Es and Dead Or Alive.
Maybe we will see Maria take to the Eurovision stage in the future for Germany or Armenia!
