HIGHLIGHTS OF COUNTRIES NO LONGER PARTICIPATING – HUNGARY 2014

In this series we look at countries which aren’t participating in the Eurovision Song Contest anymore.

Hungary participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark. This was Hungary’s 12th participation, and MTV was once again responsible for the Hungarian entry.
The same format was chosen for the 2014 Hungarian A Dal as in 2012 and 2013. This time, songs could be submitted in both Hungarian and English, as well as in thirteen Hungarian minority languages: Armenian, Bulgarian, German, Greek, Croatian, Polish, Romanian, Romani, Russian, Serbian, Slovenian, Slovak, and Ukrainian.
Thirty artists performed in one of the three preliminary rounds. Six from each preliminary round advanced to the next round: the televoters’ three favorites and the jury’s three favorites. In the semifinals, each featuring nine artists, four artists advanced: the top two from the televoters and the jury’s top two. In the final, the jury first selected four super finalists. The public then had the final say on who would represent Hungary in Denmark.
A Dal 2014 was won by András Kállay-Saunders with the song “Running,” written by András Kállay-Saunders and Krisztián Szakos, and represented Hungary at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014.
Hungary had to compete in the first semifinal in Copenhagen. András Kállay-Saunders qualified for the final, where he finished 5th.
