ESC Covers, like in previous years, google translated ESC Norge discussion on the Eurovision song contest positions, from Norwegian to English.
This is a blog post and only represents the writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.
A country that really deserves to be tried as hard as they can is our Spanish friends, but despite all their efforts since 2005 they have only been in the top 10 3 times and 2 of those places were tenth place and to further emphasize how “bad” it often goes, a full 14 times they have finished in twentieth place or worse.
The person who was paid rather poorly for her efforts this year was named Melody and the song was called “Esa Diva” which means that diva and that was perhaps what she was trying to be on stage without those who voted perhaps fully feeling the diva vibe completely creeping under their skin.
The juries were only moderately happy with this when they gave the song 27 points, but when the public only thought that Melody deserved 10 points, the total score gave it another position in the 20s and with the exception of the Albanian jury who thought this was the second best song of the final night, there were only scattered points to be gained for the diva who, as far as I remember, originated from the same city where Kyle Alessandro has family.
As usual when a Spanish artist enters an ESC stage, it is with so much energy and passion that you almost get a little tired of watching and as almost usual I feel that there has been a lot of cod liver oil in the diet of the singer and it verges on a bit parodic what happens.
There’s no limit to how much hips should be moved, how much sexy body should be shown, and how much passion in the song should be screamed out to those present and those watching on TV.
I think most people who vote think this is simply too much of a good thing, but they should be grateful that they mostly send artists who have a good vocal range. My advice would be to tone things down a bit so maybe they can finally take home a win. They’ve been waiting over 55 years to do that, so it’s about time.
