ESC NORGE DISCUSSED THE 37 SONGS FROM EUROVISION 2025 – 3rd PLACE

ESC Covers, like in previous years, google translated ESC Norge discussion on the Eurovision song contest positions, from Norwegian to English.

This is a blog post and only represents the writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.

2025 was supposed to be the year where so-called nonsense songs could actually compete for victory, and if it weren’t for two countries submitting songs of the type that made the people go crazy on the voting buttons, perhaps such a song would have won, but with two equally popular songs, the votes are divided and one doesn’t get enough to win.

Fortunately for Tommy Cash, his song about coffee, such as “Espresso Macchiato”, obviously had a wider appeal than singing about taking a sauna. This song was the second most popular with the audience, and if the country that received the most votes from the people had not had a big voting campaign going on, coffee would have become the drink of the evening on this May evening in Basel.

What both nonsense songs had in common was that they had a good song at the bottom and a show that fit the song’s content very well, just nonsense of course, but such songs also have to have a stage show that fits like a glove with the song, you can’t be sloppy with that in any genre really.

Tomas Tammemets, as the guy’s real name is, plays on absolutely every stereotype you could think of about Italians in his show. I can actually understand that some of them were a little upset, but most probably took this more as a big smile before voting for the song.

No great vocalist will likely be Tommy anytime soon, but in a song like this, things like that are mostly forgivable if it’s not completely on point, and I would argue that it wasn’t, and it was probably also a chess move to bring along four big guys as dancers and bodyguards, the bodyguard who couldn’t prevent a female fan from storming the stage, a funny scene too.

Not unexpectedly, almost 72.5% of the votes came from the people and our Estonian friends are perhaps betting that this will happen again next year. The last two years they have sent adult guys to our beloved competition, I wonder if they will send something different next year.
