ESC Covers, like in previous years, google translated ESC Norge discussion on the Eurovision song contest positions, from Norwegian to English.
This is a blog post and only represents the writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.
A total of 4 countries finished with 28 points in the semi-finals, but they are still ranked and they are ranked in such a way that the number of countries from which points have been received is counted first and if that sum is equal, then the highest number of points received from a country is the one that applies.
Our Croatian friend Marko Bosnjak was indeed the only one from semi-final 1 to get 28 points, but in the mutual ranking of those who got that score, the song “Poison Cake” came in second place since they got points from 7 countries, including a twelfth from neighboring Slovenia. The ex-Yugoslav countries were basically kind to each other in the semi-final, because none of them made it to the final and they had to give their top scores to someone else.
Poisonous cakes are rarely on most people’s menus, but as a song title, as is well known, most is fine, and you can be quite poisonous without using any deadly substances in the mix.
The mix we were served from Marko was a bit rusty vocals at times and a rather messy song that never seems to go in a direction that might be liked, here there are rhythm changes and style changes over a low shoe that I never managed to figure out.
I feel like they put a lot of emphasis on a great stage show, but when the song is incredibly confusing and noisy, it rarely gathers votes and then you have to look far away from a final place.
Most people probably expected a huge drop in rankings after the second place they got last year, and that expectation was met, so it was a song, no, bring back some slightly less noisy pop and this will probably go much better.
