Steven Sterling covered Malta 2010 MY DREAM in Afrikaans as MY DROOM.
Nilufer covered the 1973 Eurovision winner from Luxembourg in Turkish as GORECEKSIN KENDINI.
Steven Sterling did a fantastic cover of the 2010 Eurovision entry from the Netherlands. He calls it UMHLANGA ROCKS which is the name of a holiday town north of Durban.
Alpay from Turkey covered the 1968 Spanish Eurovision winner LA LA LA in Turkish.
Once again a cover by Katri Helena – this time the 1975 French Eurovision entry ET BONJOUR A TOIT L’ARTISTE. In Finnish it is called AIKA ON.
Angela Simelea covered the 1970 Eurovision winner from Irelans ALL KINDS OF EVERYTHING in Romanian as DACA VISEZI CUMVA.
During the on-going work on our project of searching for Eurovision covers in other languages by other artists, we came across Slovenian singer Nusa Derenda yesterday. She represented Slovenia at Eurovision in 2001 with the song ENGERY. We never knew she has performed so many Eurovision covers and last night listened/watched to several, among them Sweden 1999 (Take me to your heaven), Luxembourg 1972 (Apres toi), Sweden 1974 (Waterloo) and Germany 1982 (Ein bisschien frienden). It seems she concentrated on previous winners. Ein bisschien frieden was especially interesting with the song being partly in German and partly in Slovenian.
Each cover will be individually highlighted in the coming days – in our Eurovision cover series.
We must admit that before starting this series, this song was totally unknown to ESC Covers. Waterloo & Robinson from Austria participated in the 1976 with MY LITTLE WORLD but this is probably their only song composed by Ralph Siegel.
Rex Gildo had his first hit in the German charts in 1960. In 1973 he released FIESTA MEXICANA which went to number 5 on the German chart but stayed there 29 weeks – the longest any of his many songs stayed on the charts.
