Vasya & Nina Boykova from the video clip of ‘Fuego’
Vasya & Nina Boykova have recorded a Russian version of Fuego by Eleni Foureira (2018 ESC Cyprus).
Vasya and Nina are from Ukraine and they deliver a high quality version of the song that finished in second place at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. The music video is full of energy and fun with Vasya and Nina dancing with boys and girls.
The author of the Russian lyrics is Alexander Leonenko.

Maruv originally won the Vidbir national selection with Siren Song but, sadly, Ukraine decided to withdraw from the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest due to political problems.
However, Maruv continues to promote Siren Song and she has just released the official music video. It is a dynamic and spectacular and sexy video. The director is Yana Chaplygina and DOP is Eugene Kirey. The editor and colourisation is by Serge Vane
Maruv also has an upcoming tour and has released her album also. Maybe we will see her at a future Eurovision. Let’s hope so.
Dub Revolution are a talented reggae dub band from Algeria. They have released a brand new video clip for the song Redemption.
Redemption is composed and produced by band member Abderrahmane Boubaya (Popay dnd). The words are by Aleksandra Ninković, who is a promising lyricist from Serbia, who is currently based in Ukraine.
Dub Revolution are Mine, Popay, Mohamed and Amine. Redemption has a unique reggae and ethnic feel with a smooth sound and a strong production. They have an international reggae sound with a brassy feel.
The lyricist, Aleksandra, is also a busy writer working on several projects internationally.
I am sure we will hear lots more both from Dub Revolution and Aleksandra in the future.
After all the politics and no solution could be found UA:PBC have decided Ukraine will not take part in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.
This is a sad state of affairs. I feel sorry for the Ukrainian public and the singers that took part in the 2019 Vidbir selection. Of course, especially sorry for MARUV. She had a great song and performance and could have been a possible winner particularly with the lacklustre songs (in my opinion) selected so far for the 2019 Eurovision.
Let us hope Ukraine come back with a better approach and less politics in 2020.
On Saturday evening MARUV was crowned as the champion of the 2019 Vidbir national selection with her Siren song and should have therefore been looking forward to representing Ukraine at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.
However, Ukraine have decided to make a political statement from this competition and at the Vidbir the artists were grilled about any association they may have had with Russia in the past. In the winner’s case, MARUV, she has performed in Russia and is quite popular and even had some tour dates in March lined up there. She is also signed to the Russian branch of Warner Bros records.
Unfortunately, today it has been decided that MARUV will not now represent Ukraine at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. Both parties, MARUV and STB/UA:PBC could not come to a mutual agreement over terms and conditions to take part. It sounds like MARUV was virtually forced out as the terms were mostly impossible. Although, MARUV has always stated her loyalty to Ukraine.
It was even rumoured, and this cannot be confirmed here, that Jamala (one of the judges at VIDBIR and of course winner of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest) stated that 1944 was indeed about Crimea! If this is proved true then why can’t Jamala be stripped of her title!! They do this in many sporting events such as athletics, etc.
ESC Covers does not like to write anything controversial but in this case POLITICS should not be allowed at Eurovision!! Our thoughts are with MARUV and we wish her lots of luck in the future and maybe one day she will be on that Eurovision stage in a better “political” climate.
Let us look at MARUV again and her WINNING song from the 2019 Vidbir.
