VOTING SHOCK/SURPRISE – BELARUS

Around a month ago we stopped with our series VOTING SURPRISE or SHOCK as the person who compiled it for us, decided not to continue doing it anymore. We had done 21 of the 42 countries and now we will continue for the next 21 days with the 21 remaining countries – but in a slightly different manner.

We start off with BELARUS and for us the surprise in the voting for them in semi final 2 was the fact that they ended up with 55 points from the juries as well as 55 points from the public through televoting – so both groups liked them equally.

The New Wave Junior 2017 festival recently took place in Yalta in Crimea. Four young adult singers, including two former JESC participants, performed together on the stage. Kristina Svetlichnaya, Lerika, Roma Voloznev & Paulina Skrabytė. They performed an outstanding anthemic ballad in Russian together.

Lerika has represented both Moldova (2011) and Russia (2012) at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and Paulina Skrabytė represented Lithuania in the 2011 Junior Eurovision.

Roma Voloznev is a young male artist from Belarus and he has had success in festivals including New Wave Junior in 2009.

Kristina Svetlichnaya is another talented singer from Belarus and she has also had much success in music festivals in Belarus, Russia and other countries. She also got to perform with top acts such as Sergey Lazarev (2016 ESC Russia) with the song Naydi menya (Find me).

George Koldun gave an outstanding performance of his song Ty dolzhna ob etom znat’ (You should know about this) at the Pesnya goda Belarusi 2017 (Song of the Year 2017) held in Molodechno in Belarus. The show was broadcast on ONT tv channel in Belarus.

You can see George singing Ty dolzhna ob etom znat’ below.

Maybe one day we will see George on the Eurovision stage just like his brother, Dima Koldun, who represented Belarus in Helsinki with Work Your Magic in 2007.

A cool and soulful song for the summer of 2017 has been dropped by a duo from Belarus #meeoo (Alexander Serikov & Olga Satsiuk). The song is called Nesomnoyou (Surely) and is composed by Alexander Serikov (music) and Alexander Serikov and Olga Satsyuk (words). The sound production is by Sergey Gryazev (Serge Pitch.

Olga represented Belarus at the 2003 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. She has certainly come a long way with her music since those days.

Gunesh/Heartbroken Woman

Gunesh has participated several times in the Belarus national selection over the years and in 2016 she sang as part of the interval act. The song she performed, Heartbroken Woman, will be making an official release as a single.

Heartbroken Woman is composed by Nicklas Säwström and Christian Löwenborg Wahlström in association with Sweden Songs music publishing.

Gunesh also represented Belarus in the 2013 Türkvizyon contest.

You can see Gunesh perform Heartbroken Woman below and the song will be available on 7 July from most digital platforms such as iTunes, Spotify, etc.

Diana Gromova & Vlad Chizhikov have got together to record a gentle acoustic flavoured summer ballad entitle Alibi. It is sung in the Russian language. The song is composed by Nikita Naydonov. The arrangement and mixing are by Roman Voloznev. The guitar recording is by the ToneTwins. It is a beautiful song that you can imagine listening and relaxing at the beach to.

Diana is continuing to show us a versatility as a developing artist. She is comfortable singing pop, dance, rock, ballads and acoustic songs. She has come a long way since participating in the Belarussian Junior Eurovision national selections. We may well see her one day on the Eurovision stage.

NAVI BAND – STORY OF MY LIFE

In their second press conference in Kyiv, Navi band mentioned that they want to record a song or two in an African language. ESCCovers will try and get in touch with them to pitch some songs in Sotho, Zulu, Xhosa, Afrikaans, etc to them or get someone to write lyrics in one of these languages to their song STORY OF MY LIFE for them to record. Here is Cole holding one of the gifts Naviband handed to journalists in Kyiv.
