2017 JESC: Rehearsal thoughts Cyprus, FYR Macedonia

Here are more 2017 JESC thoughts on first set of rehearsals –

Cyprus: As expected, Cyprus comes with a visually beautiful show, so they are relying more on the performance than on the technical musical aspects. The song is, indeed, fun and atrractive for a contest like Junior Eurovision, it makes you feel like get up and dance and the chorus is easy to remember. Orange and yellow are the colors they chose and it’s perfect to create this greek summer atmosphere. The biggest problem is her vocals, she is struggling during the chorus and the long notes. Hope people can see her efforts and her passion. FABIANA

One of my personal favourites this year. Lots of energy on the stage. It is a great performance. The only slight negative is the clothing clashes with the background but there is still time to change this. IAN

It is a very catchy song and interesting dancers with orange shoes. The singer has an orange skirt but the jacket seems to clash with the background. Hopefully she will wave a star at the end of the performance on Sunday. ROY

FYR Macedonia: A fine and confident and mature performance. Mina owns the stage. The stage looks bright and colourful and she is looking good dressed in white. IAN

I guess the Macedonian delegation that they will be joining us in Lisbon. I can see this in Mina’s performance on the stage. I like her outfit with the hood. Her voice is sweet but there are lot of OOHs and AAAhs on the stage. Maybe too much. A little repetative. ROY

Macedonia came with some really good ideias, but not so good executions. One of the things that impresses is the slow motion during the ‘oh oh’, while Mina goes up and down the runway. The outfit is – sorry – terrible! Mina is such a beautiful girl, who should look amazing in every clothes, but not in a white surgical jacket with a hood. The only good thing about it is when she turns to the camera and the wind put the hood down. The background has a female silhouette dancing – predicatable – and some frenetical lines in green and pink. Vocally, an acceptable performance for the macedonian singer. FABIANA

2017 JESC: Rehearsal thoughts – Australia, Belarus

Here are more thoughts on the next batch of performers –

Australia: Isabella is a mature artist for her tender years. She looks confident on the stage and gives a solid and sound performance. IAN

I think she is mature and attractive girl but the colour of the clothes look a little bland. A good performance. ROY

Isabella is having fun and this is clear for us, who are watching her performance. “Speak Up” has a cartoonish background, with graphics in black, yellow and white. Unfortunately, lights are the biggest problem here, as, in some moments, it’s too bright and, in some others, it’s too dark. About the camera work, this one was well done, with camera rotations and interesting and not so conventional angles. It’s great that she brought the cards ‘what’s inside me – what’s defines me’, just like in the music video. The choreography is interesting, but they need to practice it a little bit more, just like the high notes of the chorus, as they are a bit too high. FABIANA

Belarus: A charming and confident performance. The stage looked amazing and Helena looked very good. IAN

Helena got better since the national final, she worked on her vocals and she never looked that confident. The way the wind blows her pink cape is amazing on the camera and it makes a great effect with the background, that also have a pink cape on it at some points. FABIANA

Well it was a WOW!! Visually very appealing and the backdrop is amazing and different to anything else. The reporters in the press centre loved it. ROY

2017 Junior Eurovision: Opening Party highlights

georgia

The 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest held the official opening party yesterday. Six accredited journalists left the NNN hotel by metro to the Welcome Ceremony at the Georgian Parliament library. The underground was very crowded. The team were a little late arriving and the head of Georgian delegation  welcomed the artists on the red carpet.

Inside the venue Mariam (last year’s winning singer from Georgia) was singing. The presentation of Georgian food and drink was wonderful. Roy and Fabiana chatted with several acts including Malta, Armenia and Portugal.
