KIRSTI SPARBOE HAS PASSED AWAY

Norwegian singer Kirsti Sparboe has passed away at the age of 79, Norwegian media reported on Friday. The singer was particularly known for her multiple appearances in the Eurovision Song Contest.

It is always sad to hear of the passing of any Eurovision artist, but more so in the case of someone like KIRSTI SPARBOE who represented NORWAY many times.
Kirsti Sparboe was a very popular artist in Norway in the 1960s. She participated in the national final Melodi Grand Prix several times and won four times, a record she shares with Jahn Teigen. She actually went to the Eurovision Song Contest three times: in 1965 (Karusell), 1967 (Dukkemann) and 1969 (Oj, Oj, Oj Så Glad, Jeg Skal Bli). The singer was also active as an actress. She made her film debut in 1965 and subsequently appeared in TV series, musicals, and plays.
In 1968, the song Jag Har Aldri Vært Så Glad I No’en Som Deg, sung by Kirsti Sparboe and Odd Børre, won the Norwegian national final, but due to an accusation of plagiarism, the composer withdrew the song, resulting in the runner-up being sent to the Eurovision Song Contest.
