During the broadcast of the special Eurovision: Shine A Light show this evening it was announced that Rotterdam will be the host city of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest.

An entertaining show gave all 41 songs from the 2020 Eurovision a 30 second slot to celebrate their selections. There were many special guests and emotional times such as Björn Ulvaeus from ABBA making an heart warming speech and all 41 acts from this year singing the 1997 United Kingdom Eurovision winning song Love Shine A Light by Katrina & The Waves, with an appearance at the end of the song by Katrina herself.

Tonight the slogan for the 2020 Junior Eurovision Song Contest was also revealed – #Move The World. It is hoped the contest will take place in November in Warsaw in Poland.

As we sadly know the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest will not take place this year but a special programme will be broadcast on 16 May at 21:00 (CET), Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light, to be produced by the EBU and Dutch broadcasters NPO, NOS and AVROTROS.

The show will honour the 41 selected 2020 Eurovision songs as well as having plenty of surprises. The EBU are encouraging the original 41 competing broadcasters to air the show.

Eurovision.tv advised “The show also intends to bring together 2020’s artists, from their locations across Europe, in a performance of a past Eurovision hit, with unifying lyrics appropriate for the current situation we find ourselves in”.

Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light will be hosted by the original chosen 2020 Eurovision presenters, Chantal Janzen, Edsilia Rombley and Jan Smit.
