It is now 13 days to the 2024 Eurovision final in Malmo, Sweden. For  20 days running I will highlight one song from each of the last 20 years and I have started with 2004. Now with 13 days to go it this the 2011 Eurovision.

The 2011 Eurovision song contest took place in DUSSELDORF, GERMANY.  This was Germany’s second hosting; the first one being in 1983 in Munich.

The 2011 Eurovision song contest brought a somewhat surprise victory for AZERBAIJAN. ELDAR & NIKKI won with a song called RUNNING SCARED. After a string of new countries winning in the 00’s, two countries Norway and Germany got their 3nd and 2nd victories and it was back to a new country winning.

From my perspective, I am focusing on the entry from FRANCE. It is SOGNU by AMAURY VASSILI. He is one of just a few Eurovision artists who visited South Africa prior to taking part in Eurovision and I met up with him when he was here with Kathrine Jenkins on some tour. In Dusseldorf I of course met up with him again and was able to hand him a CD by South African artist STEVEN STERING who actually covered his song SOGNU in AFRIKAANS.
