Like previous years, ESC COVERS will again share a blog post from Morten Thomassen of OGAE NORWAY with his views on the positions reached by all 35 2026 entries. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.

The entire 2020s have been a sad chapter for our Danish friends until this year. True, they made it to the final last year, but a 23rd place there is not exactly much to brag about, so when they chose to send a song in Danish again, some probably wondered if it was such a good idea.

That was it, because the song called “Før Vi Går Hjem” performed by artist Søren Torpegaard Lund quickly became a big favorite with fans and other pundits, and some actually believed that here the gold could return home to Denmark after many lean years.

How wise it is to have a Danish title and such a long artist name, one might wonder, because the jury obviously didn’t care that much, they liked this, but the audience was a bit more measured and thus made it “only” 8th place, although when the betting closed they were supposed to end up in 9th place, so maybe not so bad after all?

That Danish Søren is a musical artist on a daily basis is clear when you see and hear how well he performs his song and he keeps it going throughout the entire run, here there are no vocal awkwardnesses on the upbeat side, so to speak, and even though something happens during the entire song, he manages to stay in contact with the TV camera and is with us the whole time.

If you absolutely have to pick on something, it might be that it gets dark on stage at times and that some of the movements the dancers make may resemble what is simply called juking, and it may not be the most family-friendly movement you know.

But, all in all, I think our Danish friends have now got a little blood on their teeth and want to have a few more songs with speed and punch in them in the Danish final and then things could go even better next year before we head back home from Bulgaria to Denmark.
