We finally reached the end of the 60 songs on the compilation CD’s for the 60th celebration of Eurovision and we ending off with the UNITED KINGDOM where on 31 March a show will happen to celebrate 60 years of Eurovision. We have picked their 2004 song HOLD ON TO OUR LOVE of JAMES FOX. The Afrikaans cover is done by GUILLAUME WILLEMSE.
Almost finished, but once again we visit SWEDEN and their 2006 song INVINCIBLE of CAROLA HAGGKVIST. The Afrikaans version is by JUANITA DU PLESSIS and it sold over 100 000 copies.
Now this is the 3rd last song and it is SPAIN, their 2007 entry I LOVE YOU MI VIDA sung by D’NASH. One of the composers is of course Thomas Gson who have composed more entries for SPAIN than for SWEDEN at Eurovision. The Afrikaans cover is by ANDRE MARTINEZ.
With a million voices in our head, it is time to turn to RUSSIA again. And what better way than to have a party. It is their 2012 song PARTY FOR EVERYONE by BURANOVSKIYE BABUSHKI. The Afrikaans cover is by TIAAN GRUNDLING. The Afrikaans lyrics are so funny, inviting the Greeks to bring plates to smash and Russians to supply the Vodka, the French some expensive champagne and the South Africans some mampoer.
Who wants to play with fire? Now is your time as the next song in our 60th celebration compilation is ROMANIA 2010 PLAYING WITH FIRE by PAULA SELING & OVI. The Afrikaans duet is by ARISTA PAXTON & WYNAND BURGER
We are getting close to the end and this time it is NORWAY. Their 2011 entry is HABA HABA sung by STELLA MWANGI. The Afrikaans cover is called HABA HABA as well and it is sung by DIE CAMPBELLS.
We are flying into MALTA next with their 1997 song LEY ME FLY by DEBBIE SCERRI. The Afrikaans cover is by GEORGE MEIRING.
Sadly LUXEMBOURG has not taken part in Eurovision for many years but they have had some great songs. Their 1973 winner is a classic TU TE RECONNAITRAS sung by ANNE-MARIE DAVID who will be at the London celebrations. In the 70’s GE KORSTEN covered the song in Afrikaans and it is also a classic here with many other singers covering it in recent years.
We are now over to my most loved song from the last 10 years, LATVIA’s 2008 song WOLVES OF THE SEA from PIRATES OF THE SEA. WILLEM BOTHA did the Afrikaans cover.
Next in line is ITALY and their great duet from 1984 I TRENI DI TOZEUR sung by ALICE and FRANCO BATTIATO. The Afrikaans cover is by MICHELLE KUYPER and KEVIN LEO.
