On Saturday 25 July 2020 ESC COVERS will launch the COVER2COVER competition. In category one are 14 songs by South African artists that are covers of EUROVISION songs (actual entries or selection songs or Eurovision related because of the original artist who was an entry at Eurovision or by the composers who had written a Eurovision entry). We will list all 14 in the next days, the Afrikaans cover plus the original song.
The thirteenth song is UITKLOPHOU by KARLIEN VAN JAARSVELD & EDEN plus the original song WATERFALL by NODI TATISHVILI & SOPHIE GELOVANI.
This is a Eurovision entry. Thomas Gson, who had composed several Eurovision entries, including one winner Euphoria for Sweden in 2012, returned in 2013 with this song for GEORGIA.
Burgerd was originally a member of ROMANZ who covered the Georgia 2013 entry WATERFALL as WATERVAL. Then he did several euro covers together in a duo with ZITA – among them Croatia 1995. Now he is a solo singer and hopefully he will cover a euro song as a solo singer – then he will become the first singer to have done a cover in all three forms – solo, duo and group.
HARTLAGSIEL (heart-smile/laugh-soul) is an own composition and will become the South African entry to the 2016 WORLD SONG FESTIVAL.
Two years ago Georgia’s 2013 Eurovision entry WATERFALL was covered in Afrikaans by Karlien van Jaarsveld as UITKLOPHOU. Now there is another cover of this song. The group ROMANZ who started singing together in 2008 decided to break up as group and each of the 4 members are now busy with solo careers. Sony released a GREATEST HITS as a farewell CD. It is a double CD with 40 songs, 35 of them coming form their previous CD’s with 5 new songs, one of them WATERFALL in Afrikaans. It has new Afrikaans lyrics and is called WATERVAL which is the Afrikaans title of the original.
