He will be doing his first Eurovision cover shortly and it is the 2017 entry from Cyprus called GRAVITY, originally sung by Hovig and composed by Thomas Gson.
In Kyiv, ESC covers will be represented by Ian Fowell, our chief editor as well as Roy van der Merwe, the website owner. Roy will, however, also cover the 2017 Eurovision song contest on behalf of the Greek language radio station in South Africa, RADIO HELLENIC and because of that, we are doing a competition involving the entries of Greece and Cyprus.
The competition is fairly easy. This is what you have to do:
1 – Pick Cyprus or Greece (the entry you like best of the two)
2 – Put a photo of yourself inside the flag of the country you picked (so Greece of Cyprus) OR
Put a photo of Hovig or Demy inside the flag OF YOUR country.
3 – Send this to us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will publish it on the ESC COVERS website OR
put it yourself on the EUROVISION COVERAGE facebook
4 – By 30 APRIL a panel of judges will pick 1 or 2 winning entries and these people will win a gift package from Radio Hellenic and ESC Covers.
Roy from ESC Covers will be reporting from Kyiv for the Greek language radio station in Johannesburg, South Africa called RADIO HELLENIC which is the only Greek language radio station in Africa. So obviously this competition revolves around the entries of Cyprus and Greece. There is no right or wrong answer and 2 judges from the radio station will look at the entries and pick a winner. Now what you have to do is as follows:
Pick one of the two countries – so either Cyprus or Greece and tell us in a few words why you are drawn to this entry. You have to send your answers to email@example.com and he will pass it on to the judges.
You have 2 weeks for this and then the competition will close – 15 March 2017 to 29 March 2017.
Artist thoughts from Nicosia Eurettefriend (Designed by Carolina Añazgo Leo):
“I’m Nicosia Eurettefriend and i love turning ideas into innovation and technology for the future! I always improve over and over to make sure those creative lightbulbs shine bright and see those positive results into action. I know people are brainstorming a new idea that can help the Song Contest Go Round each minute and I’m enlightening them to find success and make those gears work in the process!
And about Hovig! It was my idea to be the 1st friend to choose Eurostar for the upcoming Esc in Kyiv. He tried to participate twice in my national finals, but ended in 3rd and 4th place. But, now it’s time to this Cypriot singer to amaze and shine the lightbulb (a.k.a seeing Cyprus in the grand final for the 3rd time in a row). Have you checked his video? It’s friendmazing indeed!”- By Nicosia Eurettefriend
The first country to announce their act for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest is Cyprus. It will be Hovig. He is a Cypriot singer with an Armenian background. He is also a former X Factor Greece participant back in 2009.
The song will be composed by legendary Swedish writer Thomas G:son, who wrote the 2016 Eurovision entry for Cyprus too for Minus One. Thomas has written many Eurovision songs and national selection songs over the years including the winner of the 2012 Eurovision for Sweden, Euphoria by Loreen.
The song will be announced at a later date.
Let us look at a track from Hovig from 2013 entitled Egó Gia ‘Ména.
