EUROVISION ARTISTS – CUSTUMES THAT GOT ATTENTION – GOOD OR BAD – SPAIN 1999

For two weeks Morten Thomassen will look at some clothing the Eurovision participants wore that attracted attention – either good of bad. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.

In this silent period until I go through all of this year’s ESC contributions, I had to come up with something and then I choose this time to focus on costumes.

Yes, I know that this is a music competition, but for many, costumes will also be something you remember very well, and in this series I will bring out some examples that have excelled in slightly different ways, you might say.

Many years ago I sat on a jury that had to choose the ugliest ESC costume of all time, and so the choice fell on the Spanish entry from 1999.

Spanish Lydia sang the song “No Quiero Escuchar” which means “I Won’t Listen” and many agreed that the lyrics were possibly about what she should wear.

She wore a dress designed by Agatha Ruiz de la Prada and a quick look at what else she makes shows that she is very fond of colorful dresses.

Just look here:  .

Unfortunately for Lydia, she actually had such an unexciting song that the focus of those watching was probably led to look at the dress instead.

It was a rainbow-coloured dress and many thought it was so undressable that one had visions of an outfit that holiday-happy ladies wear on the beach in the south.

It’s bad news when you want points in ESC and she came in last place with only a small point that she got from Croatia, maybe they were color blind in that jury?

  1. If I were sitting on that panel to judge the worst dress, it would not be this one. Yes it looks like a beach towel but there had been more horrible outfits in my eyes.
